Once upon a time there lived an old grandmother and a bird. She lived in a huge forest, and collected mushrooms whenever the rain fell. One day when she went to the forest, she sang to the Almighty for bringing rain. But when she started to walk back, she found a young bird. The bird was crying and, since the rain had soaked the bird, it was getting cold and sick. The old grandmother took the bird and collected some feathers for the bird. She went to her house together with the bird and made a nest for the bird with the feathers. The following day, when she wanted to go to the forest to collect the mushrooms, she gave food and water to the bird. When she left the bird in the house, the bird swayed her wings and within no time was changed into a crippled girl. The girl swept the house for the old grandmother, washed all the utensils and cleaned the compound. When the old grandmother came back, and found that the utensils cleaned, along with the house and the compound, she was amazed. She sat down and thought for a long time, but could not get the answer.
She walked to the neighbors’ houses to ask whoever had come to her house. When she reached her best friend’s house, the friend told her that when she was passing from the forest, she saw a crippled girl sweeping the compound. The grandmother came back home feeling embarrassed and wondered who the crippled girl could be. The next day she pretended to go the forest to collect mushrooms, though she just hid herself in a place where she could see whom the crippled girl could be. The bird again swayed her wings and changed into a crippled girl. She again started sweeping, and the old mama came back within a wink of an eye and found the bird swimming. She immediately went straight to the nest that she had made for the bird and took the feathers and the nest and threw them in the fire where they got burnt. When the bird saw all that burning, she started crying and old grandmother told the bird to stop crying as she will live with her forever and ever.

This is a story that my grandmother told me about how wisdom spread into the world. Once upon a time, a very long time ago, wisdom was not spread all over the world. Only a spider had wisdom, and it was stored in a big pot. When one day, he wanted to hide the pot that contained wisdom, he tied it onto his back with strips of trees.
The spider had a son called Calega. As the spider was climbing up the trees, his son said “Father! You will be unable to climb up the mountains and trees with the pot.” The spider said “You are a small child and know nothing.” After that, the son left him and went away. But as the spider was still climbing up the tree, the pot slipped and broke. Wisdom spread out. The spider went back home and was furious. His son told him, “Father I told you that you’d never be able to climb the tree with the pot on your back.” On that day, the spider realized that even the young had some wisdom and that’s the end of my story.

Once there was a certain king and queen who had one girl child, the princess. People were very poor in this land, but the king was wealthy. Once the princess had grown up, she asked her father to look for a place where she could settle down as a wife. The king asked her whom she planned to marry, and said that she could not marry anyone who was poor.
So, the father, mother and daughter made a promise. They decided to put some dangerous water animals, like hippopotamus crocodiles, in their swimming pool, and put a rope on the top of the pool. Whoever wanted to marry the girl would have to walk over the rope to the other side, to take the girl.
